A Biokinetic Intervention for Neurological Movement Disorders
Length of Workshop – 2,5 hours
The workshop will address the biokinetic intervention for neurological movement disorders.
Theoretical part will give overview of movement disorder diseases relevant to biokinetic practice, especially Parkinson’s disease. Practical part will provide the evaluation tools for baseline assessment of motor functions, and will demonstrate the gym based exercises for these conditions.
Irena Nowak was born and educated in Poland where she have obtained a Master’s Degree from the University School of Physical Education in Warsaw, Poland. She has emigrated to SA in 1982, and since than her professional career was linked to biokinetics and sports science. Her last employment was at the University of Johannesburg, where she held a position of senior lecturer and manager of the Biokinetic and Aquatic Rehabilitation Centre. Her field of interest and expertise encompasses biokinetic intervention for movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and ataxia, as well as aquatic therapy post arthroplasty.
