We are grateful for the support the LTMIC 2018 received from the Biokinetics and Sport Science unit of the Department of Human Movement Science, School of Lifestyle Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, to make this fourth conference an affordable and memorable event for all attending.
The LTMIC is a BASA initiative born in 2012 becoming an important event for the Biokinetics profession. The LTMIC 2018 promises to once again be a conference not to be missed by professionals involved in the sphere of movement sciences.
With the increase of non-communicable diseases in South Africa, the country is faced with an increasing burden of disease. The result places heavy demands on health care by both non-communicable and communicable diseases. Based on the fact that regular physical activity and exercise lead to improved health and performance, the main aim of the LTMIC 2018 is to provide a sound academic platform of high scientific standards, where students, practitioners, and academics can join hands in the continuous effort to provide an innovative solutions and services to all South Africans.
The conference strives to achieve this by disseminating the latest research, presenting practical workshops, and ensuring that continued education levels are maintained and improved. With well-known international and national key note speakers, the scientific program is filled with top quality abstract presentations, poster presentations, and break away discussions.
Also, unique to the LTMIC, are the practical workshops that will be presented. It provides an opportunity to all Movement Science professionals to improve their knowledge and skills. Living up to our slogan of “Life Through Movement”, the conference will be ‘fast-paced’ with the many topics to be presented. The LTMIC is a bi-annual, one-stop conference, that will meet all the academic and practical needs of the delegates!
The very vibrant Student Conference is the ideal start to the LTMIC 2018 and will be held on the 3rd of October 2018. The contagious and lively atmosphere created by the student conference flows over into the main conference. The cocktail evening on the 4th of October offers an ideal platform where delegates can gather for a much needed ‘meet-and-greet’ of colleagues from previous conferences. The social calendar for the LTMIC does not end here but culminates in the highlight of the Gala evening on the 5th of October, where the prestigious BASA awards will be presented to the winners in the various categories.
Thank you to those that will be presenting at the LTMIC 2018, for your willingness to share your knowledge and expertise with others, thereby ensuring the highest standard of services to be rendered to the people of South Africa.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all attending the LTMIC 2018.
