GUIDELINES FOR GENERAL LTMIC AWARDS

There are four general categories of awards:

  1. Advancement of Biokinetics Practice Award
  2. Research Awards
  3. Merit Award / Contribution to Life Though Movement
  4. Maretha Delport Award (NEW)

The terms of reference for each award are as follows:

  1. ADVANCEMENT OF BIOKINETICS PRACTICE

The candidate is required to have:

  1. Been In practice for at least three years (prerequisite).
  2. Made a definite contribution to the development of Biokinetics in practice or the private sector.
  3. Made a contribution and been involved in the functioning and development Biokinetics

      Association of South African

  1. Been involved in the advancement and enhancement of Biokinetics as a fully-fledged member of

      the multidisciplinary health team.

  1. Significant involvement in Community Service promoting Biokinetics.

 

The candidate needs to have excelled in three (not all) of the above facets, with point 1 being a prerequisite for nomination.

 

  1. RESEARCH AWARDS

 

B1. PREMIUM SCIENTIFIC AWARD

Premium award for outstanding researchers in the field of Biokinetics:

The candidate is required to have:

 

  1.  Membership of BASA.
  2. Published at least 25 peer reviewed journal articles 
  3. Made a research contribution in a definite field of Biokinetics nationally and internationally.
  4. Presented papers at scientific symposia and/or act as a keynote speaker.
  5. Received definite recognition in the research community trough awards.
  6. Already have published articles related to Biokinetics in peer-reviewed national and international

      journals.

  1. Aged 35 and older

 

B2. YOUNG-RESEARCHER AWARD

To motivate young upcoming researchers in the field of Biokinetics:

The candidate is required to have:

 

  1. Membership of BASA.
  2. Completed a PhD study within 5 years prior to the nomination.
  3. Made a research contribution in the field of Biokinetics.
  4. Presented a paper/s at a scientific symposium.
  5. Already published articles related to Biokinetics in peer-reviewed journals.
  6. Under the age of 35.

 

  1. MERIT AWARD

The candidate is required to have:

  1. Been a member of the Association and has made a broad contribution of excellence over an  

     extended period, towards the advancement of Biokinetics and or Lifer Through Movement.

     OR

  1. 2.  A person who has NOT been a member of the Association, but has made a contribution

     of excellence to the definite advancement of Biokinetics and or Life Through Movement.

 

  1. MARETHA DELPORT AWARD

In recognition of the contribution that Maretha Delport made over the years to the Biokinetics profession, we would like to honour her memory through this award.

The committee considers the following criteria in awarding this award to the biokineticist:

  1. A BASA member who made an outstanding contribution to Biokinetics, but especially in the field of health promotion, disease prevention, wellness and corporate wellness.
  2. A sustained contribution to the Biokinetics profession for at least three to five years.
  3. Active in the private or public domain.
  4. Actively involved in research, CPD or groundbreaking initiatives (e.g. writing new protocols or designing new interventions).
  5. Mentoring younger biokineticists and/or interns.

The first criteria is compulsory, however, the nominee should ideally excel in at least 3 of the above criteria to be considered for the Maretha Delport Award.
